Jose expects Everton challenge
"I managed against Martinez's Everton, Moyes' Everton and it is always difficult," Jose said. "It is always beautiful with a great crowd and a great stadium which is historical for my country as Eusebio scored four goals in one match there during the World Cup in '66. I had so many great matches there. Some I lost, some I won, but always a great match. The way United is playing, combined with the way Everton always try to play means it should be a very good match."
Boss on Bastian's future
Asked if Basti can stay beyond January, Jose said: "Of course he can. When you have a contract with the club you are the powerful one - you can decide your future. In the summer we tried to make something happen for Bastian to get a different future, but he was the powerful one and decided to stay, even in difficult cicrumstances. He worked for that and deserved the happiness of the last match... I like people who are determined."
Jose: Basti can help us
On Bastian Schweinsteiger's return, the boss said: "Everybody was happy as when he was not training with the team he did it with a professional way. He was struggling, because it is not easy, but he managed to do that without getting injured. He was continually working for a month, so we saw this as a good opportunity for him to play a little bit... He is one who can help us."
Martial is working harder
The boss praised Anthony Martial when invited to assess the Frenchman's form, following his brace against West Ham. "He is working harder than before, to be honest," Mourinho said. "When you score goals I think it helps for happiness to be back. As an attacking player you can play very, very well, but if there are no goals then the happiness is not there."
Mourinho in focus
Here's a snap of Mourinho from Friday afternoon's press conference, taken by official club photographer John Peters.
Insight into training
Mourinho, when asked if he worked on finishing, said: "Not the finishing as this is something we always do. What we did before West Ham, and to be honest it wasn't just before the cup, it was before the league game too, was to play against that system with three central defenders and two wing backs. We had to find the right way to explore that system as it was one that - like every system - has good qualities but creates problems."
Start of press conference
Asked if United have found their shooting boots, Mourinho began by saying: “I am always expecting this, especially because we are playing so well. Sometimes when you are not playing well you are hoping that something happens for you to score a goal - a set piece, a corner, a mistake, individual action. But this is not the case as we are playing so well and we are producing so much that the normal thing is to score goals and win matches.”
Mourinho on Shaw
Speaking exclusively to MUTV about Luke, the manager said: "The injury is a pity. We were on this process of developing him as a player - he has a lot to learn and great potential to develop so we were giving him 90 minutes. Not consecutive matches but 90 minutes against Feyenoord then, one week later, 90 minutes against West Ham, but he got this little injury."
Injury update on MUTV
The manager has confirmed to MUTV that Luke Shaw could miss out on the match against the Toffees, after exiting the midweek win over West Ham through injury, but the United boss will welcome Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini back from suspension. Wayne Rooney will unfortunately miss the trip to his former club as he serves a one-match ban.
