The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate of the United Nations Security Council has said it has concluded plans to discuss the prosecution, rehabilitation and reintegration of former Boko Haram terrorists with the Federal Government.
The directorate said it would also be visiting Nigeria in 2017 for a summit with other countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and the West African sub-region on the issue.
The Chief of Africa Section, CTED, Ms. Samia Ladgham, said this in Abuja on Saturday, adding that a comprehensive approach would be formulated in the prosecution and rehabilitation of the insurgents.

Ladgham said the task was being supported by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the European Union and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
She said, “The issue of the prosecution, rehabilitation and reintegration of the Boko Haram members is a relatively new issue that the affected states are still grappling with. We will continue to support your efforts to tackle the challenges arising from the Boko Haram. We want to develop an action plan. There will be a visit to Nigeria sometime in 2017 to discuss the prosecution and rehabilitation at a regional level.”
The NSA, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd.), who was represented by Mr. Abba Ibrahim, said the meeting was to “identify what further support, guidance and assurance Nigerian authorities will require moving forward in expanding and strengthening their approach to reintegration and rehabilitation particularly in the context of developing an approach.”
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said the Nigerian troops have now dominated the Sambisa Forest, which is believed to be the stronghold of the Boko Haram insurgents.
Buratai, who spoke at the investiture of the newly promoted major generals and brigadier generals at the Nigerian Army headquarters, Abuja, said the troops were making a headway in their operations.
Meanwhile, the spokesman, 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Borno State, Col. Mustapha Anka, told our correspondent on Saturday that no Chibok girl was rescued in the latest operation which saw 605 victims brought back from the forest.
The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, which handled the operation, Maj. Gen. Leo Irabor, had said on Wednesday that troops rescued 605 victims including 69 adult males, 180 adult females, 227 male children and 129 female children.

Irabor had added that the victims were rescued between December 7 and 14.
When asked whether the victims included the Chibok girls, the 7 Division’s spokesman, Anka, replied, “none” in a text message.
The army chief, Buratai, however, assured Nigerians that the troops had resolved to maintain pressure on all fronts in the North-East.
He said, “To whom much is given, much is also expected. You are aware of the drastic changes in the army’s area of operations; in trainings and infrastructure since the assumption of the present administration.” (Punchng.com)
