Previously in Ukraine: United's record so far

Manchester United will play in Ukraine for only the fourth time when Jose Mourinho's men face Zorya Luhansk in this Thursday's final Europa League group game.
The Reds have previously played two away matches against Dynamo Kiev - one of which you can watch highlights from above - and another more recently at Shakhtar Donetsk's stadium.

No English team had won at the Republican Central Stadium prior to the Reds' first visit in 2000/01 and although Sir Alex Ferguson's men couldn't alter that statistic, the hard-earned point was enough to claim top spot in Champions League Group G on the back of a thumping 5-1 home win over Anderlecht. Raimond van der Gouw was United's star man as he deputised for first-choice goalkeeper Fabien Barthez, making several sharp saves behind a defence which unusually featured right-back Gary Neville at its heart. The Reds would later reach the quarter-finals before bowing out to Bayern Munich in April 2001.

Rio Ferdinand scored his only European goal for the Reds as Ukraine's most successful club were defeated in style at the Olympic Stadium. The central defender powered home a header from Ryan Giggs' free-kick to give the visitors an early lead, which Wayne Rooney then extended with a simple finish following a lightning break by Cristiano Ronaldo. Diogo Rincon pulled one back for Dynamo but two goals either side of half-time by Ronaldo, the second from the penalty spot, made the game safe before Ismael Bangoura drove in a late consolation for the hosts. United won the reverse fixture at Old Trafford 4-0 a fortnight later and, of course, went on to lift the European Cup that season on a glorious rainy night in Moscow, Russia.

David Moyes' team remained top of Champions League Group A, even if Danny Welbeck's opener at Donbass Arena was cancelled out by Brazilian ace Taison. The Reds' long spells of possession drew whistles from the partisan home crowd but it was a measure of an authoritative performance from the visitors, who edged ahead in the 18th minute when Yaroslav Rakitskiy made a hash of clearing Marouane Fellaini's cross. Welbeck pounced ruthlessly to sweep home his third United goal of the season and the Reds led for almost an hour until Taison blasted an unstoppable equaliser high into David De Gea's net.
