Harry Magure on Ruben Amorim's post-match quotes:

"I think as players, we were frustrated and disappointed, coming on the back of a good away performance and beating Southampton. We have to look at ourselves and take responsibility."

On his role as a leader:
"I wouldn't put it down to that, whether I'm captain or not, I see myself as a leader in this group of players. I'm experienced and now playing for this club, there are ups and downs. It's part and parcel of playing for this club."

On the pressure that is put on Manchester United players:
"I look at previous players and the likes of Rooney and Beckham, they had a large amount of scrutiny on them and they're world-class players."

On Joshua Zirkzee:
"I sent him a private message after the [Newcastle] game. Listen, Joshua is a good player - you don't play for this club if you're not a good player. We have amazing fans who stick with us through thick and thin. It's not about individuals."

On players being nervous at home:
"We spoke about the first goal at Old Trafford and it's not teams are coming and opening us up and breaking us down. The game against Brighton was 50/50, it could have gone either way and we need to stop giving away the first goal."

"Football games are defined by small margins. We know things can turn and tomorrow is a chance to go out there and put on a performance."

On Rangers:
"We expect a tough game. They're going to come here and give everything, but our focus is on ourselves and making sure we perform after a bad defeat at the weekend."

On the team's poor form:
"If I could explain it, we would change it straight away. Like you said, we have players who have played numerous games internationally and have won lots of trophies in club football, but we're not playing well enough as a team at the moment and the league shows that."

"We need to stop looking for excuses and it's really important as an individual you improve yourself."

Amori's View On United Players

🗣️ Ruben Amorim on his quote about this Manchester United maybe being the worst in history:
"First of all, I want to talk about that. I was talking more about myself than for my players. It's more for me, talking more about me than the players."

"If you look around when I speak, every time you push about the players not being good enough, I take the spotlight away from my players. I understand I gave you that headline but I get frustrated sometimes."

"I'm not taking responsbility away from the players, what I'm saying is the message you guys show is I'm putting it on the players. In this moment, we are performing really bad and our results are really bad in the moment."

On what contributes towards potentially being the worst Manchester United side in history:
"It's everything together, the players, the staff, and I'm the biggest responsible for the results."

On United's poor home form this season:
"I think that is clear. I could say different things and say no, no, but we are more nervous playing at home than away. We lost four games in five, so it's getting harder, but we can improve."

On playing teams at home:
"We need the first thing in my mind, they cannot score. We need to score the first goal."

On weathering "the storm":
"The most important thing is to think we can improve right away in the next match. Imagine tomorrow we don't suffer a goal at the start, we score and play well, it will change the environment here and everything."

"We are going to suffer and for me, that was really clear. It's getting really hard."

On his post-Brighton comments:
"If you want, I can be delusional and say different things. It's a good thing to be honest with you."

On what to expect from Rangers: "The full-backs are really high and they have talent to score in the final third, so it's one more difficult game and it's important for us because we want to skip the Europa League play-off."

On his outburst after the loss to Brighton:
"I didn't think - that's why. I'm a young guy and sometimes I make a mistake, and that's why I don't speak after the game. This game, I needed to talk and maybe it was a mistake."

On Brighton and his comments:
"Then I get more nervous and go to the conference really nervous and say things you shouldn't say. I don't promise I won't do it again, I don't know, but I'll try to improve."

Key Highlights and Implications of Trump's Renewed Tariff Threats:

Broadening the Scope of Tariffs:

— China: Proposed 10% tariff on Chinese goods tied to allegations of fentanyl trafficking through Mexico and Canada.
— European Union: Threatened tariffs citing a $350 billion trade deficit, continuing criticism of perceived unfair trade practices.
— Canada and Mexico: Tariffs of 25% announced on Day 1, targeting trade imbalances and migration issues.
— Implication: These measures signal a continuation and intensification of Trump's protectionist trade policies, likely causing heightened global trade tensions.

Impact on Global Markets:

— China’s Response: Firm opposition, emphasizing the no-win nature of trade wars, while signaling willingness for negotiations.
— Market Volatility: Chinese stock indices (CSI 300 and Hang Seng China Enterprises Index) declined, reflecting investor concerns over potential economic repercussions.
— Implication: Market uncertainty will persist as businesses and investors adjust to potential disruptions in trade flows and supply chains.

Timeline and Legal Framework:

Tariffs are not immediate but are contingent on the results of a trade review by April 1.
Possible use of a national economic emergency to justify tariff imposition, though this remains speculative.
Implication: The timeline provides a window for diplomatic negotiations, but the looming threat could pressure countries to concede to U.S. demands.

China-U.S. Relations:

Trump reaffirmed his tough stance during a call with President Xi Jinping, discussing trade and broader issues like fentanyl and TikTok.
China emphasized expanding imports and reducing trade surpluses, signaling an intent to de-escalate tensions diplomatically.
Implication: While dialogue remains open, the situation is fraught with the potential for further escalation if concessions are not made.

Wider Economic Repercussions:

— Supply Chain Reshaping: Companies may expedite diversification away from China, as seen during Trump’s first term.
— Investor Sentiment: Persistent uncertainty may dampen global investment in affected regions.
— Legal and Political Challenges: Questions over the legal authority for such tariffs could lead to domestic and international disputes.

Overall Takeaway: Trump's tariff threats signal a renewed era of trade uncertainty, with potential widespread economic and geopolitical ramifications. Markets, businesses, and governments will closely monitor developments, seeking clarity and stability in an increasingly volatile environment.

Key Developments and Implications from the EU's AI Chip Concerns:

US AI Chip Export Curbs and EU Response:

Biden Administration’s Decision: Introduced a three-tier export control system on AI chips, restricting countries in the second tier, including Poland and other Eastern European EU states, from unlimited access to US-developed AI technology.

EU Reaction:

Eastern EU nations argue the policy undermines the bloc’s single market, creating an unfair divide between Western and Eastern European countries.
Officials from Poland, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania have voiced strong objections, emphasizing its impact on their national AI ecosystems.

Trump Administration’s Stance

The EU anticipates new tariffs under Trump, coupled with continued restrictions on AI chip exports.
Trump’s approach may further strain EU-US relations, with the bloc preparing retaliatory measures if diplomatic talks fail.

Impacts on Innovation and Industry

— Tech Companies’ Warnings: Firms like Nvidia and Oracle have cautioned that these measures could harm the US tech industry by limiting global collaboration and stifling market access.
— EU’s Regional Divide: Restrictions disproportionately impact Eastern European nations, potentially hindering their growth and favoring more developed Western EU economies.

Possible Paths Forward:

— Diplomatic Engagement: The EU aims to negotiate with the US for a common approach to AI export controls and China’s influence in the tech sector.
— Prepared Countermeasures: If talks fail, the EU is ready to impose targeted tariffs on US goods, escalating trade tensions.

Broader Context:

— Global AI Development: The US seeks to maintain its dominance in AI technology while ensuring compliance with its security standards.
— EU’s Strategic Dilemma: Balancing the need for technological independence and maintaining strong ties with the US while fostering innovation within the bloc.

Overall Takeaway: These developments highlight the growing intersection of technology, geopolitics, and trade, with the EU caught between securing its technological future and navigating complex relations with the US under shifting leadership.

BE THE BOAT PAINTER WHO FIXES THE HOLES OF OTHERS

A man was hired to paint a boat. With his paint, brushes, and a steady hand, he began coating the boat in a vibrant red, as the owner had requested. As he worked, he noticed a small hole in the hull, barely noticeable to the untrained eye. Without saying a word, he repaired it, considering it part of his job.*

*Once he finished painting, the owner paid him, and the man left, content with his day's work. The next morning, however, the owner returned, holding a check far more generous than what was owed for the painting.*

*Surprised, the painter asked, "Sir, you've already paid me for the paint job. What is this for?"*

*The owner smiled and said, "This isn’t for the painting. It’s for fixing the hole in the boat."*

*The painter, puzzled, replied, "But that was such a small thing—certainly not worth this amount."*

*"My friend, you don’t understand," the owner began. "When I asked you to paint the boat, I didn’t even remember about the hole myself. After you finished and the paint dried, my children took the boat out on a fishing trip without telling me. I was away, and when I got home, I was horrified to realize they had gone out in a boat with a hole in the hull."*

*The painter listened intently as the man continued, his voice now thick with emotion.*

*"I was terrified, thinking they might never return. But when they came back safely, I rushed to check the boat and found that you had repaired the hole. You didn’t just fix a boat—you saved my children’s lives. That’s something I can never fully repay."*

*The painter stood silent, absorbing the weight of the man’s words.*

*The owner added softly, "Sometimes, the smallest gestures can have the greatest impact. What seemed insignificant to you meant the world to me."*

*In life, we may unknowingly fix many “holes” for others—offering help, mending hearts, or simply being there when needed. We often don't realize how much those small actions can mean to someone else.*

*You never know when your quiet kindness might save a life. Keep helping, keep caring, for the world needs more boat painters.*

Hubert Graczyk: Manchester United promote new goalkeeper amid Andre Onana's high-profile mistakes

  • Manchester United have added a new goalkeeper to their first team as Andre Onana continues to elicit sharp reactions
  • Onana was once again culpable of another error as Manchester United lost to Brighton 3-1 on Sunday at Old Trafford
  • The new goalkeeper was spotted warming up with Onana and second-choice Altay Bayindir before their recent games

Manchester United have promoted a young goalkeeper to their senior team as concerns over Andre Onana continue.

Onana was once again on the receiving end of criticism on Sunday after his mistake allowed Brighton and Hove Albion to score their third goal.

Who has Manchester United promoted?

MEN reports that Hubert Graczyk has been promoted to the first team. Graczyk is yet to be named on an official match-day team sheet, but he was spotted helping Onana and Altay Bayindir during the warm-up sessions before the Arsenal, Southampton and Brighton games.

Who is Hubert Graczyk?

Graczyk, a 2003 Polish-born goalkeeper, joined United on a free transfer in August last year. He was signed from Arsenal, where he had been since 2017. The Gunners brought him from Everton's Academy when he was 14 years.

"A confident and vocal goalkeeper who relishes contributing to build-up play," a bio on Arsenal's website reads.

He spent time at National League side Slough Town on loan.

Graczyk is said to have impressed Manchester United's first-team coaches, and he could be promoted on a full-time basis, especially with Tom Heaton's contract up in the summer.

The 38-year-old, who has been the third-choice goalkeeper, signed a one-year contract extension last year.

Will the new goalkeeper replace Onana?

Despite impressing in his sessions and Onana's errors, Graczyk still has a long way to convince Ruben Amorim of a chance in the squad. Onana's understudy Bayindir recently impressed in the FA Cup against Arsenal and could play into Amorim's thoughts in future for a more consistent role.

What did Amorim say about Onana?

After the Brighton defeat, Amorim failed to blame Onana directly but faulted his team's focus.

"It's like the team, ups and downs. Really up, sometimes, and really low downs. We have to maintain the focus during the game to try to win. That is the only way we can turn things around," he said, as quoted by the Mirror.

The former Sporting Lisbon manager could be tempted to bench Onana for their upcoming Europa League tie against Rangers.

Onana has three errors leading to goals in the Premier League this season. Only three players have more.

Manchester United flop to leave club

TUKO.co.ke has also reported that Antony will leave Manchester United after Real Betis reached a verbal agreement for a loan deal.

Antony's time at Manchester United hasn't gone as planned after arriving from Ajax two years ago.

The Brazilian played his last game for the club this season in the Brighton defeat.

Manager's View

💭 Amorim: "We are Manchester United are losing so many games at home is not acceptable. We need to win games to help us sell the idea to the players. We need training to fix things."

"We try to have possession, control the ball, but the players are anxious, no putting the ball between the lines, always a touch. This is not acceptable."

"Another loss at home. It's not acceptable, the way we suffered the goals. We can play some football but [only] in small spaces of time, so it's not consistent and we get nervous and then we suffer a goal."

"Again, in the beginning, it's one play that is clearly what Brighton do. Then it's really hard to turn things around. We get really anxious, really nervous and they were better again."

On Onana's mistake:
"I think you felt it in the stadium. But we cannot end the game like that. Everybody out of position, so we have to end the game in a different way. No matter the result, we have to be a different team in all aspects."

"Brighton were comfortable. We tried [to get back into it] but with not very good football. You can see this game and remember Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest, where we were in the game and suffer goals where we cannot suffer. Then it's really hard for everybody. We lost again at home, it's not acceptable. We need to change that and change fast."

On if it Is going to be like this for quite a while until he can stamp his mark on things:
"That is clear. With me, that is clear. Because I'm not going to change the way I see the game. I'm very clear on that. The players are going to suffer, I'm sorry, the fans are going to suffer. I have one way of doing things, I know it's going to [bring] results. But we have to suffer these moments. I think it's very clear for everybody what we are going to do."

Porto sack coach Vitor Bruno

FC Porto announced the dismissal of Vitor Bruno on Monday, making him the third coach to be sacked by one of Portugal’s three main clubs this season.

The 42-year-old took over from new AC Milan boss Sergio Conceição in the close season but was dismissed after Porto lost ground in the title race, following back-to-back league defeats this month.

Porto’s academy director, José Tavares, will take over as coach on an interim basis, the club confirmed.

Sunday’s 3-1 loss away to Gil Vicente marked Porto’s third consecutive defeat in all competitions. They had also been beaten by Sporting Lisbon in the semi-finals of the League Cup on January 7.

Porto have now slipped to third in the table, four points behind leaders Sporting, while Benfica moved into second place over the weekend.

Benfica parted ways with German coach Roger Schmidt at the end of August, while Sporting sacked Ruben Amorim’s successor, João Pereira, just over a month after Amorim departed for Manchester United.

ADVISE TO CIVIL SERVANTS

 1. Build a house earlier. Whether rural house or urban house. Building a house at 50 is not a feat. Don't get used to government homes. This comfort is so dangerous. Let your whole family have a good time in your home.

2. Go home. Don't stay at work all year round. You are not the pillar of your department. If you fall dead today, you will be replaced immediately and operations will continue. Make your family a priority.

3. Do not run after promotions. Master your skills and be excellent in what you do. If they want to promote you, it's good if they don't, stay positive for your personal development.

4. Avoid office or work gossip. Avoid things that tarnish your name or reputation. Do not join the moving train that bites your bosses and colleagues. Get away from negative gatherings that have only people as a program.

5. Never compete with your bosses. You will burn your fingers. Don't compete with your colleagues, you're going to grill your brain.

6. Make sure you have a secondary activity. Your salary will not support your long-term needs.

7. Save money. That it is automatically deducted from your pay slip.

8. Borrow a loan to invest in a business or to change a situation not to buy luxury. Buy luxury with your profit.

9. Keep your life, your family private. Let them stay away from work. It is very important.

10. Be loyal to yourself and believe in your work. Staying around your boss will alienate you from your colleagues and your boss could finally drop you when he leaves.

11. Retire early. The best way to plan your outing was when you received the job letter. The other best time is today. From 40 to 50 years old, be outside.

12. Join well-being at work and always be an active member. This will help you a lot when a possibility occurs.

13. Take days off, use them by developing your future home or your projects. Generally, what you do during your days off is a reflection of the way you live after your retirement.

THIEVES IN THE BUS

A teacher received his salary and boarded a crowded bus back to his home, and there was a thief in the bus.

The thief stole the teacher's money from his pocket.

After the teacher reached his destination, the driver asked for his fare, he dipped his hand into his pocket and found nothing.

The teacher's face became blushed and his tongue became heavy, he was so embarrassed. The driver who also became angry said mockingly to the teacher; "Shame on you, you consider yourself a respected person while you can not afford your transport fare!."

The teacher became very much embarrassed.

As this was going on,  pride hit a portion of the thief's ego and he was moved to say to the angry Driver: "My brother, the teacher's fare is on me!."

That is the thief offered to help the teacher, who is his victim.

He helped not out of pity for the poor teacher but to buy other passengers trust and confidence and to use some of the stolen money to earn respect before the rest of the passengers in the bus.

The teacher who did not understand what was happening smiled and said to the thief: "May God bless you and multiply your likes, sir!."

Then some of the  passengers in the bus also praised the thief, praised his kindness, and also prayed for him and that God should increase his kind.

Since then, the number of thieves in our bus have increased and they continue to receive our thanks and appreciation.

We are all in a bus(Nigeria) where thieves are stealing from us and using the stolen money to buy our trust and earn our respect in a way that we keep thanking them for their "kindness".

This is the metaphor of the state of our nation, Nigeria!

The thieves in our buses are increasing all the time because we continue praising them for returning small from the much they stole from us.
This is rather very unfortunate!!!

EFCC STATEMENT

The EFCC has confirmed that Late Aminu Sahabi Salisu, an operative, was brutally murdered while performing his official duties on January 17, 2025, by a suspected internet fraudster identified as Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu.

In a statement released by Dele Oyewale
Head, Media & Publicity of EFCC.

The statement reads: “The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, expresses grief on the loss of one of its officers, Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASE II Aminu Sahabi Salisu who was killed in cold blood while on a legitimate duty on January 17, 2025 by a suspected internet fraudster,  Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu.

“Additionally, the Commission views with great concern the irresponsible,  callous, inhuman and outrageous narratives being circulated on social media on the whys and wherefores of the fatal accident. It is heinous to reduce the death of a gallant officer who was carrying out patriotic and official duties to social media razzmatazz.

“More worrisome is the fact that some faceless commentators are pitching their tents with an alleged criminal who unleashed terror on officers of the EFCC in their line of duty. There is no justification whatsoever to rationalise a murderous act. The milk of human kindness demands that a grieving family, Commission and nation should be spared the shenanigans of false narratives and conjectures on the death of the slain officer.

“Salisu, alongside other investigators of the EFCC, were at Dr. J.O. Ukwutinife Close, Ifite, Awka,  Anambra State, to arrest some suspected internet fraudsters in the early hours of January 17. The operation was duly documented at the Anambra State Command Headquarters and Area Command of the Nigeria Police in line with operational protocols.

“The operation was initially smooth sailing with 37 suspected internet fraudsters already arrested at a two-storey building housing Ikechukwu and other occupants of the house.

“However, Ikechukwu, who sighted the investigators through a CCTV Camera mounted at his doorpost and who also confessed sighting them,  declined to open his door for the investigators who politely demanded entrance to his apartment. Defying all the introduction and physical sighting of the investigators, he resorted to firing shots at them and killed Salisu in the process and wounded another officer detailed to conduct a search in his apartment.

“Preliminary investigations showed that Ikechukwu was involved in coding and online medical supplies of doubtful legitimacy. Two laptops, ipads, several recording devices were recovered from his apartment and his involvement in internet fraud is already established. Though currently in police custody owing to the murderous dimension of his case, the Commission will surely bring him to trial.

“The EFCC also wishes to alert the public that the activities of internet fraudsters are becoming patently hazardous to public safety and security. Intelligence has shown that these criminals are carrying arms, involved in kidnapping, banditry, ritual killings and other deadly acts.  The public should not fold its arms or allow itself to be deceived that they are mere “Yahoo boys and girls”.

“As for the EFCC, every subsequent attack on any of its officers will be met with the force of the law. The Commission will not fold its arms and allow any of its officers to be killed again in cold blood. As a law enforcement agency of repute, the EFCC is unrelenting in riding the nation of  internet fraud and other acts of corruption.

“While mourning the loss of its officer who paid the supreme price in the service of the nation, the Commission appreciates the invaluable support, condolences and prompt response of sister agencies and well-meaning individuals standing shoulder to shoulder with it at this trying time.“

Dear Voice of Igbos by Reno Omokri

,

Thank you for your take. However, your judgment may have been based on a wrong premise.

Are you aware that Sir Ahmadu Bello was the Premier of the Northern Region? The point you, Voice of Igbos, and those who support you are missing is that at Independence, Nigeria had three (later four) semi-autonomous regions created to serve only the interests of the indigenous people of those regions, while a central government was created based in Lagos to serve the interests of all Nigerians.

Before Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi promulgated the Unification of Assets Decree on May 24, 1966, which formally ended regionalism in Nigeria and created a unitary system of government, for the first six years of our existence as an independent nation, Nigeria had regions with full powers of resource control and who were free to do pretty much as they pleased, except secede.

For example, two of the three regions (the West and East) had diplomatic relations with Israel, while the North rejected it.

What that meant was that as Premier of the regions, each Premier was legally and politically expected to put the interest of his indigenes above the interests of other Nigerians from outside his area, as far as his region was concerned.

And nowhere was that more absolute than in the Eastern Region of Nigeria.

The Western Region of Nigeria was the most liberal of the three Regions. Herbert Macaulay and later Chief Obafemi Awolowo had many non-Western disciples whom they helped get elected or appointed into high offices.

The Western Region also had universal free education, which was open to all Nigerians living in the Western Region, regardless of tribe. This was also available in the Northern Region, but not the Eastern Region, where it was available only to indigenes.

Would it then be fair to maintain that Sir Ahmadu Bello was a bigot when he was fulfilling the constitutional role he swore to uphold?

Within reason, Sir Ahmadu Bello went out of his way to accommodate non-indigenes in a way that was only done in the Western Region.

For example, he appointed an Igbo man, Felix Ezejiofor Okonkwo. Alias Okonkwo Kano, into the Northern House of Chiefs. Please note that the man was not elected. He was appointed. Meaning that he was not there as of right. He was there as a privilege. A privilege given to him by Sir Ahmadu Bello as far back as 1957.

It would have been entirely different if Felix Ezejiofor Okonkwo had been elected. But he was appointed. Why would a man bigoted against the Igbo do that? His appointment by Sir Ahmadu contradicts your stand, wouldn't you say so?

And if Sir Ahmadu Bello was a bigot, then why do you think Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe chose to form a coalition government with his Northern Peoples Congress, thus giving the NPC the mandate to form the first independent government of Nigeria, with Sir Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa as Prime Minister?

After all, Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the Action Group made an offer to form the government with Dr. Azikiwe's NCNC, but Mr. Azikiwe refused, preferring to coalesce with the Sir Ahmadu Bello led NPC, don't you think this negates your claims?

Anyway, thanks again, and may God bless you.
