REP SUSPEND JIBRIN

A former Speaker of Imo State Assembly, Mr. Nwoha Amaechi, on Thursday said that the suspension of Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin by the House of Representatives was expected.

Amaechi described the suspension as a “warning for those lacking proper discipline.”

He said the suspended lawmaker had, by his actions, violated the standing rule of the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

He said, “Publicly levelling unfounded allegations against his fellow members in spite of the party’s intervention is unethical of a lawmaker.

“He went too far in his actions. He went to the Press first to make allegations, exposing the House’s internal matters to the Press.”

The lawmaker said the suspended lawmaker deserved it.

He expressed confidence in the standing rule of the National Assembly, saying it was impartial.

Amaechi condemned corruption in its entirety and called on all stakeholders to restore the image of the country by shunning corruption.

He said, “If Jibrin had, at the beginning and before the signing of the budget, reported foul play by even bringing the matter to the attention of security agents, he would have been vindicated; but he didn’t.

“His action was like an afterthought; he created room for suspicion; in fact, he shot himself on the leg.”
